Jolly Phonics
Currently students are learning the name and sound of the letters S. Since the JK students are coming on shortened days, we will continue to practice this letter during the second week of school. Usually we learn a new letter every week. In the coming weeks we will begin to learn about the letters A, and T. To help your son or daughter learn these letters please point them out and talk about the sounds they make. Some students will be learning to blend these sounds into words. As well, some students will be learning to read and write sight words based on individual needs and assessments. There is an informational article about the Jolly Phonics program attached below. If you have further questions please do not hesitate to ask. Mrs. Fries or Mr. Prieur.

September Math
In Math we have started our sorting and patterning unit. Students will continue to learn how to sort and groups items by different characteristics. For example, separating buttons into groups based on size. Maybe later the buttons will be sorted by colour, or number of holes.
As well, we will be counting to 10 or 20, printing numbers up to 5, and recognizing numbers up to 10 out of order. These number skills will be practiced all year long. The numbers we practice will gradually increase from month to month.
